Currently, there are two competing views on the release date of iOS 4.2. According to 9to5Mac, the new iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch will be publicly available either on the 9th or 12th of November 2010. Apparently, as evidenced in the image below, Apple will be pushing out some carrier updates on November 12th.
It is worth noting that one should be skeptical of this information given the fact that carrier-representatives are not the best source of information on release dates for iOS updates. It is Apple that announces the iOS release dates, not carrier representatives.
The other view point is that November 9th is the Droid Pro’s launch date and by all means Apple would surely love to take away the show from Android’s parade. Besides that, Inside-Handy.de, claims that their inside sources have informed them that iOS 4.2 will be available via iTunes this Tuesday, that is on November 9, 2010. They have allegedly got this bit of news from a representative working at Deutsche Telekom.
Either way, iOS 4.2 will be the first version of iOS to unify the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch in terms of software. The updated iOS brings all the features of iOS 4 for the iPhone to the iPad including as well as some new features to all the iOS devices.
