Chronic Dev team updates Greenpois0n to RC 6.1 to Fix issue with iBooks

Apple is beginning to get petty in their fight against the jailbreak community. The latest strategy taken on by Apple is to prevent you from reading the books that you purchased on iBooks- of course that is if you are using a jailbroken phone. The good news is that the Chronic Dev team has updated GreenPois0n to RC 6.1 so as to overcome this problem. You can download GreenPois0n RC 6.1 here for both Windows and Mac.

GreenPois0n Jailbreak for iPhone, iPad, iPod and Apple TV Updated to RC6

The newest version of greenpois0n (RC6) will perform an untethered jailbreak (meaning you can reboot your iDevice without the need to re-JB). In addition to that, this update brings support for the Apple TV and fixes emulators compatibility issues with GreenPois0n. Since it came out last week, GreenPois0n has been updated several times. Although RedSn0w can also provide an untethered jailbreak, GreenPois0n still remains our recommended jailbreak for 4.2.1. You can download GreenPoison RC6 for Mac and Windows from our downloads section.

GreenPois0n updated to RC5 2 so as to Fix “Initialized Screen Error"- Download now.

GreenPois0n RC5 2 has been released. The update to 1.0 RC5 aims to fix an initialization error that some users reported. Recommended: How to fix Greenpois0n rc5 no Cydia icon problem.

The recommended fix for installing the Cydia icon after jailbreaking your iPhone with GreenPois0n rc 5 is to install RedSn0w 0.9.6 on top of my GreenPois0n jailbreak. This way, you still retain your untethered jailbreak, while gaining the necessary Cydia icon.

Step 1: Jailbreak your iPhone with GreenPois0n using this tutorial.
Step 2: Use this video tutorial to install RedSn0w on top of  GreenPois0n installation in order to gain access to your missing Cydia icon.

Both GreenPois0n and Redsn0w can be downloaded from our downloads section.

How to Update iPhone 4 to iOS 4.2.1 and Preserve Baseband 4 1.59.00 For Unlocking

TinyUmbrella developer @notcom has devised a way of upgrading your iPhone 4 to iOS 4.2.1 without upgrading your baseband. This is important for iPhone 4 owners who are on the older 1.59.00 baseband (modem firmware) for they can now upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 and still be able to unlock their iPhones. NB: Note that if you are not on baseband 1.59.00 you will not be able to unlock your iPhone.
If you are in the older 1.59.00 baseband, follow the guide below to preserve your iPhone 4 baseband and unlock and jailbreak your iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.
Note: If you are not sure of what baseband your iPhone 4 is on, launch Settings > General > About  > Modem Firmware.
Step 1: Download TinyUmbrella from here
Step 2: Connect your iPhone 4 & Launch TinyUmbrella
Step 3: Click On the “Save SHSH” button
Step 4: Now, Click on start the “TSS Server” button
Step 5: While the TSS server is running, Launch iTunes
Step 6: Now, Click on Restore in iTunes (Don’t Click on Update)
Step 7: During the Restore Process, iTunes will give you Error 1013. Don’t panic, this is good. This error means your baseband has been preserved. Exit out of iTunes.
Step 8: Next, jailbreak your iPhone 4 with Greenpois0n RC5 (follow our tutorial here). This will jailbreak your iPhone 4 as well as kick it out of Recovery Mode.
Step 9: Because Greenpois0n does not support hacktivation, you will need to find an official SIM card (doesn’t need to be activated), insert it in the iPhone 4 and connect to iTunes. This will bring you to the homescreen. Once you are on the homescreen, you will no longer need the official SIM card.
Step 10: Follow our tutorial here to unlock your iPhone 4 on baseband 1.59.00.
That's it!

The GreenPois0n untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 has been released!!! This step by step guide will show you how to use GreenPois0n to jailbreak your iPhone running iOS 4.2.1. NB note that that this version will not hacktivate your iPhone and that so far there is only a Mac version. If you depend on software unlocking please STAY AWAY FROM THIS.

Step 2: Download GreenPois0n from our iPhone downloads section.
Step 3: Plug your iPhone to your computer via the USB cable then launch GreenPois0n. Click on the “Jailbreak” button.
Step 4: As soon as you hit jailbreak, you will have to follow instructions for putting your iPhone into DFU mode:

  • Press and hold the sleep button for 3 seconds
  • Continue holding the sleep button while pressing the home button for 10 seconds
  • Release the sleep button while still holding the home button for 10 seconds
Step 5: Your device will now be ready for the jailbreak. Just wait a little bit while GreenPois0n works its magic.

GreenPois0n RC5 Untethered 4.2.1 Jailbreak Supports iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 2G, 3G, 4G. iOS 4.3 Not Supported

All indications are that GreenPois0n RC5 will be bringing untethered jailbreak to iOS 4.2.1 in the very near future. Twitter user @JHackstar directed us to a Wiki showing that GreenPois0n RC5 is ‘coming VERY soon’ and will support all devices.

Currently, there is no point in withholding GreenPois0n RC5 until the release of iOS 4.3; this is the case because Apple has closed the loophole that hackers have been using up until iOS 4.3.  iPhone hacker Pod2g has also confirmed this on Twitter:
The good point is that because of this (and the fact that Apple fixed the kernel exploit in 4.3), we’re all working back on releasing gp.
That’s great news on 3 levels. First, I’m sure plenty of you have been waiting for an untethered jailbreak on 4.2.1 for a long time now. Second, the new GreenPois0n will work on ALL hardware. It’s great to hear that nobody will be left out in the cold this time around. Thirdly, it’s good to hear a release isn’t too far away. Sure this is as good as it can go!

New Untethered Jailbreak Exploit Discovered for iOS 4.2.1 & 4.3!

Pod2g, the hacker behind the famous SHAtter and the untethered iOS 4.2.1 exploit for GreenPois0n has discovered yet another vulnerability in iOS for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. This vulnerability may possibly be used on iOS 4.2.1 and 4.3 to develop a untethered jailbreak.

At present, it is unclear whether the vulnerability found is in the bootrom like Limera1n, or if it is of the userland. Since the upcoming version of GreenPois0n is already set to bring untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1, all indications are that this vulnerability is likely going to be saved for future firmwares like iOS 4.3. The cat and mouse game between Apple and Hackers continues!

Update: iOS 4.1 Jailbreak GreenPois0n is NOT COMING Out this Weekend

Chronic Dev Team hacker p0sixninja, one of the hackers who are working on GreenPois0n jailbreak with SHAtter exploit, has tweeted that the tool is not coming out tomorrow or today or any fixed date for now.
It's /not/ coming out tomorrow, I'm just getting sick of hearing dev teams slogan (as much as everyone else is sick of hearing ours =P)
In fact like we have said before, the tool is coming soon but for now we do not know when.

The official GreenPois0n website has been modified and updated

That's GOOD NEWS! for this indicates, like we have mentioned before that the GreenPois0n jailbreak is REALLY SOON. You may be intrested in checking out these posts:

The Greenpois0n SHAtter Hype- Do not Get Scammed, Get Legit and Free jailbreaking tools links

We have repeatedly warned you to keep away from all sites that offer jailbreaking tools for your iOS device for a fee because they are ALL SCAMS. Such sites are scams because they will either offer you for a fee functional products that are meant to be free or at worst they will offer you bogus non-functional products for a fee. Either way, you stand to lose you hard earned cash as well as expose your credit card details to cyber criminals.
The whole point is that as of today, and I do not expect that to change any time soon, developers of jailbreaking tools offer their products for free. Most of them generate their income through voluntary donations or adverts. What's common amongst all of them is that they do offer their products for free.
For you own good and interests, I have compiled a list of the genuine and free jailbreaking sites. I shall keep on updating this list. Please note that it is up to you to follow the directives provided by these sites before you attempt to either jailbreak or unlock your iDevice. To receive the latest updates on these sites and more follow me on @tecwizpie

Beware of Cyber Criminals: Fake GreenPois0n for iOS 4.1 in circulation!

What Makes Greenpois0n Tick or Should I say SHAtter?

Greenpois0n is a multi-platform jailbreak for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad; this means that it works both on Windows and Mac. This in itself cannot make greenpois0n tick, so what makes it tick? Greenpois0n uses the SHAtter exploit, in all probability this and only this is what makes greenpois0n tick. The question now becomes “what is SHAtter?”
SHAtter is a new exploit that allows ALL iOS devices that have been released up to date to be jailbroken for LIFE! Yes for Life. Such devices include iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPhone 2G, iPad, iPad 3G, iPod touch and even the new Apple TV!
How is all this possible?
