Samsung reconsiders pricing after it finds parts of Galaxy Tab 10.1 'inadequate' compared to iPad 2
Regardless of whether you love or loathe Apple, you have to be happy with the company's aggressive upgrade of the iPad. As a matter of fact, this has led Samsung, purveyor of an Android 3.0 tablet by the name of Galaxy Tab 10.1, to look more closely at its own hardware and pricing model. In addition, according to executive VP Lee Don-Joo, Samsung has been forced to "improve the parts that are inadequate." We don't know what parts in particular, however he notes that "Apple made [the iPad 2] very thin" and also goes on to say that Samsung will be rethinking its pricing strategy with the Tab 10.1. It was originally going to cost more than the 7-inch Galaxy Tab, but in light of Apple's new product, Samsung might have to cut into its profit margins or maybe even forgo profits altogether to make its new Tab a success.

As iPad 2 Event draws closer the Apple Store Is Down
The iPad 2, as you’re probably aware, will be announced at a special event today at 10 a.m. PT, and the Apple Store has just gone offline in preparation for one of the biggest product launches of the year.
When the store comes back online, which should be shortly after the announcement, it will be showing off a shiny, new iPad, and we’ll be there every step of the way.

What to Expect from the next-gen aka iPad 2 Event
Apple will be holding its iPad event tomorrow at the Yerba Buena Center in San Fransisco, California. So what can you expect from this event?
To begin with, there’s general consensus that we’ll shall see a preview of iOS 5.0. As Engadget reports,
“It’s also almost guaranteed that we’ll see the next version of iOS (number 5 in all likelihood, along with its SDK for devs), and an expansion of Apple’s cloud services (that part is a little… foggy right now). Of course, that will perfectly set up Apple’s announcement of the iPhone 5 in June, which is when iPad owners can likely expect to be using the new software.”The timing of an iOS 5.0 preview tomorrow makes perfect sense for Apple. If the iPhone 5 is introduced during Apple’s WWDC conference this June, developers will need to get their hands on the new SDK. An iOS 5.0 preview and SDK release would be a perfect side dish to the main entree that is the iPad 2.
MobileMe will most likely be significantly revamped and re-introduced as a free service for all Apple customers. Cloud storage should be a huge part of the MobileMe revamp. Cult of Mac got an inside tip from an Apple staffer on the new MobileMe,
“The Apple staffer, who asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, said the new MobileMe service will store music, TV shows, and films that were purchased from the iTunes store. The staffer also said that there was talk inside Apple of being able to upload all your music and videos to the cloud whether it was purchased from iTunes or not. However, they couldn’t confirm whether this will be rolled out or not.”As we venture a little farther out on the rumor radar, some reports have claimed that MobileMe could also be the framework for some type of Apple-engineered social network.
Finally, Steve Jobs could make an appearance at tomorrow’s keynote. Jobs went on a medical leave of absence last month, but Kara Swisher from All Things Digital is claiming that there’s a good chance we’ll see Steve onstage at tomorrow’s event.
“According to several sources close to the situation, Apple CEO Steve Jobs–who is on a health-related leave from the company–is definitely considering an appearance at its big iPad 2 event tomorrow.Kara Swisher has been spot on about Apple news before. She was the one that correctly predicted the date of tomorrow’s event before Apple sent out invites.
If he did appear, sources said, Jobs would make at least a brief appearance on stage along with other top company execs in showing off Apple’s latest version of it hugely popular tablet.”

Apple CEO Steve Jobs to Appear in tomorrows iPad 2 Event
According to All Things Digital, Apple CEO Steve Jobs is ‘considering’ putting in a surprise appearance at tomorrow’s iPad 2 event.
Citing people ‘close to the situation’, All Things Digital says that while an appearance by the charismatic CEO is by no means assured, Jobs could make at least a cameo appearance.
If he did appear, sources said Jobs would at least make a brief appearance onstage, along with other top company execs in showing off Apple’s latest version of it hugely popular tablet.Jobs is currently on sick leave and it’s been widely believed that he wouldn’t be in attendance at the event. Whether he will appear at the event or not remains to be seen.

iPad 2 to be made available to the Public soon after March 2 iPad Event
We already know for a fact that Apple will unveil the second-generation iPad next week, on March 2. What remains unclear is when the iPad 2 will actually be available to consumers. Reports have indicated that hangups in the device’s production could cause some delay in the actual release of the new iPad. But Apple Insider sources say the tablet may arrive much faster than anyone expected.
According to “people familiar with the matter,” Apple has begun making preparations for a “large-scale, consumer-oriented product roll out” for the second half of next week. Considering March 2 lands on a Wednesday, that would mean the iPad 2 could be made available to the public almost immediately after it’s official announcement.
From what we know so far, the iPad 2 is expected to be slightly slimmer than the first-generation iPad, with a display panel that is 30-35 percent thinner. The displays are said to have the same 1024×768 resolution as the first iPad, but will have a “anti-reflection” technology to reduce glare in high sunlight, and increase the viewing angle. The iPad 2 will also be faster, with twice the on-board RAM (512MB) as the original iPad. It is also expected to have two cameras, one front-facing for FaceTime-run video calls.

Apple iPad 2 to be launched without any Serious competition- Kudos to Steve Jobs
It’s a year since Apple released the iPad and iPad 2 is just days away and yet there is simply no competition for the iPad!! How can this be? Well there are a few very good reasons for Apple’s success and why its competitors are finding it difficult to gain any traction against the king of digital devices. To begin with there is the infrastructure, the combination of hardware and software. One cannot deny the fact that unlike it's competitors, Apple has a tight grip on both the software and hardware. Apple makes its own software and hardware.
In addition to the above, Apple's competitors are content to settle for second best. In fact, even though Apple didn’t invent the tablet, Apple nonetheless did popularize the concept and how it fits into our lifestyle. Clearly the evidence of this is that every tablet announced or released since the iPad looks just like it. This is an interesting point because it points to the fact that every company that is making a tablet is trying to compete with what Apple is offering. In other words, they aren’t aiming at making something better than the iPad- they are just trying to catch up and are happy being second. It seems to me that the above will remain true until someone decides to step outside of Apple’s shadow and dares to think different.

Why I want these Five Features from the new iPad.
Next Wednesday, Apple will announce the iPad 2. Below is my wish list of things that I would like to see in the new iPad.
Cameras
Obvious, this one. We're almost certain there will be a front-facing camera for FaceTime and other webchat applications, but I really don't care. I'll use that for Skype once in a while and that's it. What I want is a decent rear-facing camera, like that in the iPhone (not the crippled piece of junk in the iPod Touch).
Why? Because it would be so useful, and not just for photography. Augmented reality, Instagram, scanning things, snapping photos and then drawing on top of them, the list goes on.
One of the things I took away from all the tablets I tried at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week was just how good a camera is on a big device. It seems like it would be awkward, but the big screen is great for composing and the size turns out not to matter at all.
Speakers
The single iPad speaker isn't bad, but for movies and music you really want something beefier, and preferably in stereo. The rumors point to at least one big speaker grille on the back of the iPad's case. Currently I get around this with an assortment of Bluetooth speakers around my apartment, but I'd rather do without them.
SD card slot
This one would be purely for importing photos and video. Basically, it would be nothing more than a built-in camera connection kit.
The Apple's Camera Connection Kit is great, but it is one more thing to lose and carry. I use my iPad more and more for processing photos (courtesy of Photogene and FX PhotoStudioHD), and until I can send direct from my camera via Eye-Fi, a slot is a lot more convenient than yet another dongle in my bag.
A better connector
The 30-pin dock connector is one of the worst things Apple has made (the other is "all mice it has ever created"). It is symmetrical, so it's hard to put in the right way in bad light. It's delicate (the cord breaks easily where it enters the plug) and worst of all, it's huge. In fact, the iPod Nano is barely big enough for the connector slot.
The likeliest candidate for a replacement is Light Peak, or Apple's rumored implementation of it, Thunderbolt, which might show up in this week's new MacBook Pros. This could be a small port that could carry power and data of any kind.
That in itself would be good enough, but you know what I'd really like? A Thunderbolt data-cable with a MagSafe plug. That would be just about perfect.
Better case
The size and weight of the current iPad are just fine. Anyone who complains that a 1.5 pound sliver of aluminum and glass is too heavy needs to shut up and go join a gym. But it is slippery. I keep mine in Apple's own case 24/7. This is partly to protect the screen, but mostly to stop me dropping it, especially when I'm walking on crutches with it tucked under my arm.
A little more friction on the back would help a lot. Perhaps a plastic rear, or just a grippy coating.
Bonus: The screen
This is a small request. I don't want a retina display (or rather I do, but I don't want the current penalties of price and battery life associated with it). All I want is a dimmer screen.
The brightness at the top end is fine, but even at its dimmest setting, the screen is too bright for using indoors at night. It's true, I keep my apartment fairly dim (I call it "moody and romantic," but you may call it "cheap"), but unless you keep your place lit up like an office, the screen glows a little too much.
Those are my requests. What about yours? Do you want a built in printer? A near-field communications chip to turn your iPad into the world's biggest wallet? Or even a flashlight? Let us know your suggestions, as ever, in the comments.

Next Generation iPad 2 Event Later This Month With A March Release Date?
Macotakara, a Japanese news blog, believes that Apple plans to hold a news event towards the end of February to announce the iPad 2. They go on to say the hardware will ship in the following month, March. As MacRumors points out, at present, there’s no reason to believe or disbelieve the report. All in all, the time scale seems reasonable and it’s no secret that Apple is working on a next generation tablet. If Macotakara’s claims are accurate, it seems that iPad 2 is just around the corner!
