Apple iPad 2 to be launched without any Serious competition- Kudos to Steve Jobs

It’s a year since Apple released the iPad and  iPad 2 is just days away and yet there is simply no competition for the iPad!! How can this be? Well there are a few very good reasons for Apple’s success and why its competitors are finding it difficult to gain any traction against the king of digital devices. To begin with there is the infrastructure, the combination of hardware and software. One cannot deny the fact that unlike it's competitors, Apple has a tight grip on both the software and hardware. Apple makes its own software and hardware.

In addition to the above, Apple's competitors are content to settle for second best. In fact, even though Apple didn’t invent the tablet, Apple nonetheless did popularize the concept and how it fits into our lifestyle. Clearly the evidence of this is that every tablet announced or released since the iPad looks just like it. This is an interesting point because it points to the fact that every company that is making a tablet is trying to compete with what Apple is offering. In other words, they aren’t aiming at making something better than the iPad- they are just trying to catch up and are happy being second. It seems to me that the above will remain true until someone decides to step outside of Apple’s shadow and dares to think different.

Engadget Awards: Apple iPad wins Gadget of the year, iPhone 4 is Phone of the year and Microsoft Kinect Game Accessory of the Year

Apple iPad: Gadget of the year.
The iPad won this one going away -- there's just no denying the influence Apple's tablet had on the industry this year. But we think the Evo 4G will be remembered as the first of an entirely new breed of smartphones, and that's pretty amazing too.

iPhone 4: Phone of the year
We went endlessly back and forth on this one, but in the end the iPhone 4 won out -- it's simply a more polished device than the Evo, and it set a dramatic new quality standard for mobile displays.

Microsoft Kinect: Game Accessory of the Year
What's the best thing you can buy for your game console, other than another disc? We'd recommend a motion controller, like the Kinect or PlayStation Move. Unfortunately, neither shipped with a killer app, but we'd give Kinect the edge -- hacks demonstrate the potential for fabulous game experiences.

Leaked Next-gen Apple iPad cases suggest rear camera and SD card slot

New cases designed for Apple's forthcoming second-generation iPad show that the next gen iPad will have a rear-facing camera as well as a space that could be used to input a SD card.

The cases, spotted by iLounge, show a rear-facing camera on the left side of the device, as well as a larger cutout on the bottom where the speaker exists on the first-generation iPad. One case, from Shenzhen MacTop Electronics, suggests the device will be slimmer than the current iPad.

Another case, from Kodawarisan, shows many of the same features and dimensions, but the documentation accompanying it also mentions an SD card slot, in addition to FaceTime.

iPhone Dev Team releases Redsn0w 0.9.7 jailbreak tool

The iPhone Dev Team has released Redsn0w 0.9.7 jailbreak tool for Mac. This new version fixes all sandbox-related issues, including Bluetooth problems on an untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak.

The Windows version of Redsn0w 0.9.7b5 is also ready, but has yet to be released because it is painfully slow to use; however, once the performance issues are fixed then the windows version will be released.
There is actually a Windows version of beta5, but it’s excruciatingly slow compared to the Mac version because it’s forced to use files on your hard drive instead of RAM while it’s processing the very large IPSW images.  It really is very very painfully slow, so we probably won’t be releasing it for testing purposes unless it can be sped up somehow.
