Pre-release review of iOS 4.2 for iPad, iPhone and iPod.

In a few hours time, iPad, iPhone and iPod touch owners will get to experience the more than 100 new features and innovations that will come with iOS 4.2. However, it is iPad users who will appreciate iOS 4.2 the most. This the the case because iPhone users have already experienced some of these features, for instance, multitasking, improved mail etc. Either way, here is a list of some of the noteworthy features that you will soon be enjoying in iOS 4.2.
  • Multitasking
This is the ability to run more than one app at a time and switch between the running apps instantly. This feature is disabled in iPhone 3G and totally absent in the iPad. However, there are tweaks that can enable this feature in iPhone 3G

Apple sued for turning iPhone 3G into 'virtually useless iBrick'

Apple is being sued by a disgruntled iPhone 3G owner for deliberately crippling her iPhone 3G via iOS 4.1. Biana Wofford claims the company deliberately crippled the device with a software update in order to force customers to migrate from 3G to iPhone 4. She filed the lawsuit in the Superior Court of California and is seeking class action status, claiming Apple turned her phone into "a device with little more use than that of a paper weight".
According to her claim, "Apple has falsely, intentionally and repeatedly represented to owners and consumers of the iPhone 3G that its new operating system for the device, iOS4, was ... a significant upgrade for the functionality of all iPhone devices, when in fact, the installation and use of the iOS4 on iPhone 3G resulted in the opposite - a device with little more use than that of a paper weight,"..........the iOS 4.0  upgrade "degraded service, diminished speed and operability and substantially slowed functionality of the device".
Apple rolled out the iOS4 update to iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS owners just before it began selling the iPhone 4. Since then it has been a night mare for iPhone 3G users who quickly found that applying the update significantly slowed down performance and caused apps to crash. Unfortunately,

New tweaks in iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod.

iOS 4.2 for the iPad, iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 and the second, third, and fourth generations of the iPod touch has moved from the beta stage to the Gold Master version. This means that the public version should be available in two to three weeks time. Other than what has been mentioned earlier, you may expect the following additions from iOS 4.2.

Ultrasn0w unlock for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G to come soon after iOS 4.2

MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team has confirmed that ultrasn0w unlock for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G on iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2, with 05.14.02 baseband will be released in a day or two at most, once iOS 4.2 is released to public.
